ABOUT US
Brandeis Hillel Day School (BHDS) is an independent co-educational Jewish day school providing an outstanding academic education for children in grades kindergarten through eighth. Brandeis Hillel students become accomplished, independent, creative and critical thinkers who develop a life-long love of learning. A low student/teacher ratio provides students individual attention and sets the foundation to build self-confidence through its nurturing environment.
Brandeis Hillel teachers follow the best practices set by experience, a collaborative approach and the most recent findings of educational research. Our teachers and administrators are engaged in research to bring innovations, insights and best practices to bear as a result. Brandeis Hillel graduates get into their top choice of high schools and go on to become leaders in our community and in the world.
Students and families are welcomed into a warm, open and diverse Jewish community, inclusive of all backgrounds with shared values. The school recognizes and celebrates the uniqueness of each student and strives for the development of the whole child.
Founded in 1963 in San Francisco as the Brandeis School, we merged in 1973 with the Hillel Day School to become Brandeis Hillel Day School. The Marin Campus opened in 1978. Brandeis Hillel Day School is accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
CURRICULUM
Brandeis Hillel Day School offers an engaging, integrated and rigorous curriculum that includes a strong foundation in core academic disciplines: English, with an emphasis on writing, reading and public speaking, mathematics, science, social studies, Hebrew and Judaic studies. In addition, performing and visual arts, athletics, music, technology, outdoor education and community service are important components to enhance the growth of our students’ hearts, minds and souls. Developing social and emotional skills are a critical part of our program as well and play an important part in our school culture.
Our committed and dedicated faulty and staff work in partnership with families to provide the best possible educational experience for students. Brandeis Hillel teachers on both campuses collaborate and teach in a multi-disciplinary manner, giving greater relevance to subjects across the curriculum. Our teachers create a rich and varied learning environment in which our students develop exceptional learning skills through lively debate, creative projects and hands-on interactive experiences. BHDS students know how to communicate, write effectively, and have superior information gathering skills and an entrepreneurial spirit.
We are deeply committed to the intellectual, social, spiritual and physical growth of our students. We also expect our children to develop compassion, tolerance and mutual respect for others. We guide them to become responsible citizens in our community and in the world. We teach that kindness is important for its own sake.
