We are a preschool for children from 18 months through pre-K, with a playgroup for ages one to three and a curriculum infused with Jewish values.

Ch. 1

The Story

To unite children and families in a nurturing and loving Jewish community through the promotion of peace and justice, through adaptation of change and diversity, through service, and through recognition of the value and dignity of each individual child.

We are dedicated to encouraging children to create a strong identification with the Jewish community of Kol Shofar.

Within our supportive network of families across the generations, Grove students and parents, will discover significant relationships of friendship and community. We celebrate birthdays, special occasions, and holidays together. Our families experience moments of celebration, along with the profound joy and meaning that awakens each of us to a sense of belonging.

Every Friday morning, our community joins together to welcome Shabbat with Cantor Naomi Weiss and our music specialist. We encourage parents, special guests, and grandparents to join us for this community building ritual.

Ch. 2

Programs

Inspired by the philosophies of Reggio Emilia, we encourage creativity, exploration and self-expression. For our preschool programs, early release runs 8:30am to 1pm, early drop-off starts at 8am, and afternoon extended care runs until 5pm. Our Pre-K staff support each family as they prepare for the transition and explore elementary school options.

Grove Pre-Kindergarten Program

We encourage literacy, numeracy, art and science through child-directed play and work and teacher-directed large and small groups. Our Pre-K children spend ample time outdoors learning about our environment with hands-on experiences.

Family participationKol Tots Playgroup welcomes parents and caregivers with babies and toddlers, providing an opportunity to connect with the Jewish community and embark on an early learning adventure.

Grove Preschool Toddler Program

Through structured and unstructured play, toddlers will explore the world with all of their senses and begin to build lifelong friendships.

Through love, encouragement, play, exploration and fun, children learn about themselves, each other and the world around them.

Ch. 3

The Campus

Our preschool features spacious classrooms, plus expansive outdoor play areas open to a sprawling terrain of hills, fruit trees, and play areas. This unique outdoor-centered environment provides ample opportunities for exploration so young children can observe and learn with their five senses, while connecting socially and emotionally with their peers and the plants and animals that call the Marin Headlands their home.

Our toddlers have their own outdoor play area with an array of materials to keep them engaged and curious.

Ch. 4

Enrichment

Our Camp Teva summer 2026 program is for children ages 18 months to 5 years, regardless of preschool enrollment. Registration for summer 2026 is closed. Led by our Grove Preschool teaching team, campers explore our campus and its terrestrial and aquatic critters in groups by age. Every Friday, we come together as a camp community for a Shabbat celebration.

Ch. 5

Faith & Service

We value intergenerational learning experiences, where students, teachers, and family members celebrate the cycles of the Jewish year together, both in and out of the classrooms.

Our families don’t need to be a member of Congregation Kol Shofar to begin.

Worship

We celebrate the rituals of Shabbat and Havdalah weekly and learn the stories of Judaism through our senses.

Our curriculum addresses the needs of the whole child, including strong thinking skills, compassion and Tikkun Olam (healing the world).

Values

We embrace each child’s unique and natural way of learning, value social responsibility as much as personal responsibility, and prepare children with the foundational skills to be successful in school and in life.

Ch. 6

Admissions

Our admission process begins with an application and then a tour of the school. We place children in the most developmentally appropriate class, depending on availability. If that class has no space, we place children on an interest list. We enroll children mid-year if space permits; otherwise children enroll in August.

Tours

We offer preschool tours each year from October to February. If the preschool has additional spaces available, we will continue offering tours through the spring and summer.

Children are eligible for admission at the age of 18 months.

Application

Our online application collects basic information about each child and family. We then contact families to schedule an information session.

Priority

Kol Shofar members and siblings always have priority enrollment.
