We are a WASC-accredited private middle and high school for grades 6-12 in Sausalito, where our one-to-one model lets students learn at their own pace.

The Story

Headlands Preparatory School empowers all students to develop themselves as individuals and as contributors to the community through individualized learning, academic mastery, personal growth, and civic engagement.

At Headlands Prep School we are committed to developing and celebrating personal strengths as each student builds an understanding of their unique learning profile.

Headlands Prep School first opened its doors in 2017 as a campus of Tilden Prep School.

While our student body is composed of students with diverse needs and goals, more often than not, parents seek out Headlands Prep because their childrens’ needs are in some way not being addressed in the traditional school setting. Rather than being forced to fit into a mold, our students are celebrated as individuals within a collective community.

At Headlands Prep, we believe that community is our strongest asset and we work to empower each other in becoming engaged contributors to our society.

Academics

We believe every student learns best when they are supported, confident, and empowered to grow. We provide a challenging college preparatory academic program within a model that allows students to learn at their own pace and develop a unique tool kit suited to their personal needs. Our curriculum is designed around the concept of Mastery Learning and our Acquire-Practice-Apply method, in which students acquire content and skills, practice them in a meaningful way, and apply them for long term learning.

Advanced courses

Our courses are approved by the University of California, which is the most rigorous approval process for college prep, honors, and AP courses.

The Campus

Our campus is nestled in the heart of downtown Sausalito, surrounded by the natural beauty and coastal charm of Marin County. With inviting, intimate learning spaces designed for individualized instruction and small-group collaboration, our campus offers a comfortable, welcoming environment where students can focus, connect, and thrive. Our location also provides opportunities to explore the waterfront and engage with the vibrant surrounding community.

Ch. 4

Enrichment

Small group electives meet twice per week for the duration of the semester. Here we come together to learn.

Student clubs meet once per week at lunch to share interests and socialize. Clubs are student-generated each year.

Admissions

We welcome any questions you may have as you explore Headlands Prep School and look forward to meeting you and your student as they begin the next step of their academic journey.

Tours

During the informational phone call, we will schedule a time for families and students to come and tour our campus. Our Open Houses are in person, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Application

We enroll students year-round, so traditional due dates and start dates may vary. Families schedule an initial interview with their student and our Director and Head of School to learn about HPS and share their student's educational journey and goals.
