We are a nonpublic day school serving students in grades K through 12 with intensive therapeutic support and an education plan fitted to their specific needs.

The Story

With our committed support, students address emotional and behavioral challenges and build on their core strengths and innate desire to learn and grow. Our overarching goal is to return students to their neighborhood mainstream public school setting equipped with the skills to thrive socially and academically.

Our Irene M. Hunt School (formerly Marin Academic Center) was dedicated in 2012.

We are the special education program of Side by Side, a nonprofit agency, and we are accredited by NCASES, a subsidiary of the National Association of Private Special Education Centers (NAPSEC).

Students with social, academic, emotional, and behavioral challenges that cannot be fully supported in the public school system.

Programs

Our academic curriculum is individualized for each student and complemented by a school-wide positive behavior program and customized student support plans.

Elementary, middle and high school

Our small classes are organized by elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Ch. 4

Therapies & Support

We offer a therapeutic environment where students develop the capability to regulate their behavior, maintain focus and resilience, and form healthy, trusting relationships. Behaviorists on our staff provide evidence-based behavior measurements, which result in data-enriched feedback about student progress.

Integrated therapies

Our students receive personalized mental health treatment and other specialized services according to their Individualized Education Program plans.

Families

Every day, we work alongside youth and their families, guiding them through life’s challenges.

Parent support

Group and Family Therapy services further support our students and families and help promote earlier and more successful graduations.
