The Story
Our mission is to provide academic excellence through an authentically French and International education while prioritizing a caring environment and celebrating the diversity of our community. Our vision is to cultivate the global thinkers and leaders of tomorrow.
The Lycée Français de San Francisco (the Ecole Française at the time) was founded in 1967 by a group of parents and teachers, Claude Reboul, Henri Monjauze and Claude Lambert, who split off from the French-American Bilingual School to create a French immersion program based on the French Ministry of National Education’s curriculum. In 1986, the Marin County French School in San Anselmo merged with Lycée, adding a North Bay campus for students in preschool through 5th grade. In 1989, the Marin campus moved to Corte Madera. In 2013 we inaugurated our new campus in Sausalito.
Across our three campuses, our international community brings together 850-900 students, more than 50 nationalities and more than 30 languages. Around 75% of our families are a mix of US, US/other, US/French, or other nationalities, and 50-55% of our students have at least one French parent. Our community fosters French language proficiency and bilingualism.
