We are a parent cooperative preschool for children ages 2.25 to 5, where children learn through play guided by a full teaching staff and co-oping parents.

Ch. 1

The Story

We believe education is best served when teachers, parents, children and families work together. We pride ourselves in providing children with a secure, comfortable and responsive environment, by respecting, accepting and encouraging each child’s independence and autonomy.

Founded in 1939, Sausalito Nursery School is one of the longest running cooperative preschools in the country.

Our students grow into the world feeling loved and supported by a diverse community group that is broader than the nuclear family. This builds confidence and a sense of true belonging at a very early age. Plus it's super fun for everyone involved!

Ch. 2

Programs

The professional staff, aided by co-oping parents, is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum for each age level.

Ch. 3

Enrichment

Every year, our parents work with our teachers to create enriching opportunities for our students.

Our program provides time, space and materials for dancing, movement activities, creative dramatics, fantasy, improvisation, and role-playing. Most art activities are offered as an exploratory process rather than to produce a product.

The Annual Fund is a donation-based campaign to support our yearly operating budget. Tuition covers a substantial portion of our operational expenses, but not all of them. We are committed to providing affordable tuition for our families.
